The Sentier international des Appalaches – Québec has published its May, 2020 newsletter. In addition to COVID-19 related updates, it includes information for hikers on reservations and trail guides, and introduces Alexis Turcotte-Noël, the new director of SIA-QC. A few excerpts are below.

SIA-QC and COVID-19

In accordance with essential protection measures issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the instructions and directives from the government of Quebec, the SIA-QC and Rando-QC reminds all hikers of the importance of following sanitary measures regarding COVID-19. Adopting a few simple behaviors (wash your hands frequently, avoid close contact, and avoid touching you face) will help stabilize the situation and possibly save summer and its beautiful promises!

Deputy Prime Minister Geneviève Guilbault announced the lifting of road checkpoints on May 18, 2020 for the regions of Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, which gives us hope for the 2020 hiking season. Though the Trail remains closed until the situation stabilizes, we are available to respond to requests of information and can take requests for reservations and the Grande Traversée Passport. Billing of reservations will be made when we are sure we can welcome you on the SIA-QC.

Thank you for your understanding.

23rd Annual General Meeting from SIA-QC

Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the current prohibition on public gatherings, we must postpone the 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Trail international des Appalaches – Quebec to later this fall. In the meantime, our team will continue to focus their energies on managing the impact of the current situation.
